Why does Humming Hill Suri Farm specialize in only Peruvian blood lines?

Alpacas were highly selectively bred for fine dense fleece l000 years ago in Peru. Today 85% or about 5000 tons a year of all alpaca wool is produced by Peru. We think that it will be very difficult to improve on the experience of Peruvian breeders. We do not feel that "Americanizing" the alpaca will improve the breed.

We have seen in many animal breeds of the past that "Americanizing" the animal is not in the best interest of the particular animal. Therefore, we intend to keep our bloodlines pure, full Peruvian. We will continue to use Peruvian breeding techniques to improve our offspring by breeding high quality Peruvian Suris to like animals.
